Our first supperclub of 2017! (8 years and counting….)

IMG_4557.JPG

Our first supperclub of the year went off with a bright tasty bang on Saturday! We were delighted to have a full table and we welcomed some fellow listeners of Joanne Good’s afternoon show on BBC Radio London. We are avid listeners of Jo’s show and we have her blaring away in our kitchen Monday to Saturday! Susan and her husband Ed along with Toni, David and Chris had all emailed us within minutes of hearing our interview on Jo’s show and we were pleased that they were able to join the evening! We were also pleased to welcome some local Tufnell Parkers to the table too as well as the lovely Melissa who has supported us since our inception in 2009.

We are often asked how long it takes to prepare for our supperclub. In truth, over the last eight years we have become a well oiled machine but we still prep on the Friday evening and cook all day and evening on the Saturday, so preparation takes a long time! It makes it all the more rewarding when guests tuck into and enjoy the dishes!

Our supperclub guests will know that Ma Rani is the head chef…

We served up a delicious Punjabi menu, including some real supperclub favourites. Mushroom Sabji, Spicy Fish Masala & our traditional Murgh Masala with whole spices. New on the menu was our Whole Tarka Daal, a creamy and thick traditional Daal and succulent and spicy Turkey Koftas with a Mango, Pomegranate and Red Onion Salad.

For dessert we served up a new creation inspired by an old family recipe. Phirni is a traditional Punjabi dessert made with milk, custard and sugar and was made by Ma Rani’s mother Joginder in India, East Africa and sunny Northfleet in Kent where Ma Rani and her family eventually settled in the late 1950s.  We adapted our own recipe to create a Coconut & Walnut Phirni with a homemade Raspberry Coulis served with fresh Mint. Fortunately Ma Rani had made extra so the family were tucking into their’s the next day!

We had a fantastic evening, once again meeting new people and making new friends so thank you for all our guests for joining us for our first supperclub of 2017!

Happy Days at Hampton Court!

IMG_3550We spent the bank holiday weekend feeding hungry customers at the BBC Good Food Festival  at Hampton Court Palace and what a delight it was! The weather was glorious, the sun shone, the prosesco was flowing and our samosas, pakoras, cooking sauces, chutneys and relishes flew out of their baskets!

A huge thank you to all of you who bought our produce and both friends and family who came to support us and the weekend in general. The team were slightly disappointed not to have met up with Paul Hollywood of Bake Off fame but they carried on regardless……

IMG_3565.JPG

Our samosa picnic boxes went down well in the heat – perfect food for lazing about on the lawns of the palace! Pannaa (she trained under Michel Roux Jr don’t you know!) and Katie made a brilliant team and being part of our family made it all the more special as they were both able to be with us for the weekend!

( Katie’s Mum and Ma Rani’s best friend Carolyn hand embroidered our aprons a few years ago and we will always wear them!)

We were genuinely overwhelmed by the lovely feedback from new and past customers so a big thank you to you all! Our street food and our supper club are our pride and joy and seven years later we are delighted to still be serving up our produce to you all.

You can email us directly for information about our samosa boxes, delivered ready to be served or ready for your freezer for a later date! New supper club dates will be released soon and we are working on a batch of new cookings sauces, chutneys and relishes. Our online shop is a working in progress at the moment but please do have a look!

In the meantime you can find us every Saturday at the Tufnell Park Tavern Food Market, Shepherds Markets ~ Spitalfields every other Friday,  Startisans and Partridges Market, Chelsea once a month.

Four Spaces Network – Driving and Supporting Initiatives Focused on Women’s Development

IMG_3249

We are delighted to be proud sponsors of this fantastic new platform for women’s development. Jane and her lovely team hosted their first event on Thursday 30th June in London. Having bought our samosas at our Covent Garden market, Jane approached us about doing some food. We didn’t hesitate in saying yes and the evening was both insightful and fun with some great talks from women in business and the Essex police force. We are looking forward to creating some yummy food future events. You can sign up to receive information from Four Spaces by going to their website.

“Four Spaces was invented by five friends over a glass of wine. We talked about a common ambition: to make a contribution to society by driving and supporting initiatives that are focused on women’s development.

The first output of Four Spaces is this blog. This is an opportunity to explore the female experience.

Soon we got to talking about how we each moved in a vibrant network of women. Imagine the opportunities that could be ignited by bringing those people together. And that’s how our events were born. Four Spaces events are our fresh take on the tired world of business networking.

Four Spaces events are about cramming a series of surprising, fun, sometimes challenging but always thought provoking experiences into one short evening. By participating in opportunities to learn, to try or taste something novel or gain glimpses into other people’s stories our guests will meet new, fascinating people.

In the near future we hope to evolve Four Spaces further. Our fresh take on networking is step one of our mission. Our events will be the catalyst for a new  set of connections, opportunities, mischief and fun.

But we hope this is just the beginning of a movement to support women’s empowerment.”
