Our first supperclub of the year went off with a bright tasty bang on Saturday! We were delighted to have a full table and we welcomed some fellow listeners of Joanne Good’s afternoon show on BBC Radio London. We are avid listeners of Jo’s show and we have her blaring away in our kitchen Monday to Saturday! Susan and her husband Ed along with Toni, David and Chris had all emailed us within minutes of hearing our interview on Jo’s show and we were pleased that they were able to join the evening! We were also pleased to welcome some local Tufnell Parkers to the table too as well as the lovely Melissa who has supported us since our inception in 2009.

We are often asked how long it takes to prepare for our supperclub. In truth, over the last eight years we have become a well oiled machine but we still prep on the Friday evening and cook all day and evening on the Saturday, so preparation takes a long time! It makes it all the more rewarding when guests tuck into and enjoy the dishes!

Our supperclub guests will know that Ma Rani is the head chef…
We served up a delicious Punjabi menu, including some real supperclub favourites. Mushroom Sabji, Spicy Fish Masala & our traditional Murgh Masala with whole spices. New on the menu was our Whole Tarka Daal, a creamy and thick traditional Daal and succulent and spicy Turkey Koftas with a Mango, Pomegranate and Red Onion Salad.

For dessert we served up a new creation inspired by an old family recipe. Phirni is a traditional Punjabi dessert made with milk, custard and sugar and was made by Ma Rani’s mother Joginder in India, East Africa and sunny Northfleet in Kent where Ma Rani and her family eventually settled in the late 1950s. We adapted our own recipe to create a Coconut & Walnut Phirni with a homemade Raspberry Coulis served with fresh Mint. Fortunately Ma Rani had made extra so the family were tucking into their’s the next day!
